East Windsor Middle School hosted a regional competition of the prestigious Great History Challenge on April 2, 2025. The event, a thrilling display of historical knowledge, invited 120 bright minds from across the region to converge for a test of their expertise in a fast-paced, Jeopardy-style format.
The journey to the regional stage was no easy feat. To qualify, students from grades 6 through 8 had to first conquer a rigorous, timed online examination. This demanding test narrowed down a pool of ambitious students to the top contenders, with 38 of those qualifying students hailing from EWMS itself.
The atmosphere in EWMS was electric as students faced off in the Jeopardy-style challenge, buzzing in answers and demonstrating their deep understanding of historical events, figures, and concepts covering a vast array of historical periods from ancient world history, modern world history, and US history. The competition was fierce, with participants showcasing impressive recall and critical thinking skills.

Among the competitors, five students from East Windsor Middle School distinguished themselves as regional champions, earning a coveted invitation to the national competition. William Howard, Robert Belforti, Madeline Burnham, Jacob Provost, and Joshua Vendetti demonstrated exceptional historical intelligence, impressing parents, teachers, and fellow competitors alike. Also qualifying for the national competition in Orlando, Florida were East Windsor students Riley Fox, William Loos, Michael Dzaidul, and Kendall Johns for a total of nine EWMS students.
“We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated, especially the nine students who qualified for the national competition,” said a delighted Tim Field, Principal of East Windsor Middle School. “Their dedication to learning and their passion for history are truly inspiring.
